Rape Crisis Center of Vermont
The Women's Rape Crisis Center is dedicated to ending all forms of sexual violence. It is committed to serving the Chittenden County community through the continued provision of our services and to being a leading voice in the State of Vermont for meaningful change in law and society. It provides crisis counseling and advocacy for those whose lives have been affected by sexual violence. Its education outreach work strives to change attitudes and beliefs that perpetuate and condone the cycle of violence.
Founded in 1973 by a group of women answering a nighttime hotline for survivors of sexual violence, the organization has since grown into a non-profit organization with over 40 staff members and volunteers. In 2008, its volunteers contributed over 6,000 hours of service, and it reached 17,718 community members through public awareness events, educational workshops, and other outreach events.
